Prism Contractors and Engineers, Inc. was tasked to locate and map all water system components on Andrews Air Force Base. This project was completed for Terrapin Utility Services, a subsidiary of American States Utility Services. Work included the location of over 450 fire hydrants and 1,300 valves. The system is comprised of 60 miles of pipe. Twenty (20) benchmarks were installed throughout the base and the location of features was performed using GPS-RTK equipment.
Prism determined the connectivity of the entire water system and information was put into a GIS system. The project also includes performing hydrant testing on up to 470 hydrants and developing a water model, used to demonstrate flow demands and to make recommendations for system upgrades to produce the required fire flow.
Prism is also anticipating starting the Andrews Air Force Base sewer study. Work will include location of up to 1020 sanitary sewer manholes and 250 visible cleanouts. Prism will also obtain rim elevations for up to 1020 sanitary sewer manholes. All information will be put into a GIS system and used to calculate the connectivity of the system. Information will also be used to develop a sanitary sewer model for the entire base.
